Goldman mulls putting Lloyd on Oprah

Well it probably wouldn’t be as difficult as appearing before the Senate…

…or would it? For a man like Lloyd the Senate must be like a walk in the park, Oprah on the other hand; an unpredictable minefield.

WSJ: LONDON (Dow Jones Investment Banker)–Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (GS) is considering advertising for first time in a bid to improve its battered reputation, and has even discussed placing Chief Executive Officer Lloyd Blankfein on the “The Oprah Show,” a spokeswoman said Tuesday.

London-based Fiona Laffan, Goldman Sach’s head of media relations in Europe, Middle East and Africa, told a communications industry event that mistrust and hatred of bankers, not just those at Goldman Sachs, remained near an all-time high and that the bank, as an industry leader, needed to do a better job of explaining what it did and how.

Although some at Goldman believe Oprah would present a good format for this PR exercise, not everyone was on board – Laffan apparently said, “There are people [in the bank] who think we should go on ‘Oprah’,” Adding. “I’m not one of them.” US finance blog, Dealbreaker went so far as to give Lucas van Praag a call to get his take and were told, “We have huge respect for Oprah’s program but at this time no plans to participate.”

Perhaps Tom Cruise could give Lloyd a call and persuade him of the benefits.
