Ken Clarke for Chancellor – No “Thank You Very Much”
The state of the economy makes the post something of a poisoned chalice at the moment…
But we doubt that’s Ken’s reason for hiding any possible enthusiasm for the role.
CityAM’s recent survey showed that the real-ale drinking, cigar chomping Conservative was the City’s No.1 choice for chancellor. Clarke won 36 per cent of votes but Osborne only got 23 per cent.
Ken said yesterday at the British Chamber of Commerce’s annual conference:
“I’m an ex-chancellor of the exchequer and I’m going to stay an ex-chancellor of the exchequer thank you very much”
