$100m Bonus for Lloyd Blankfein “thumbing his nose at Obama”
That’s the polite version at any rate…
Just as the dust is settling from Obama’s new crusade against the banks, there is speculation that Lloyd Blankfein is preparing to give the US President a two fingered salute, a full moon and nose thumbing in response.
The Times: Goldman Sachs, the world’s richest investment bank, could be about to pay its chief executive a bumper bonus of up to $100 million in defiance of moves by President Obama to take action against such payouts.
Bankers in Davos for the World Economic Forum (WEF) told The Times yesterday they understood that Lloyd Blankfein and other top Goldman bankers outside Britain were set to receive some of the bank’s biggest-ever payouts. “This is Lloyd thumbing his nose at Obama,” said a banker at one of Goldman’s rivals.
It would mark a new personal best for Lloyd who took home his previous record bonus in 2007, topping a mere $67.9 million. Goldman’s London-based partners on the other hand agreed to cap their pay at £1m last year following Darling’s bonus tax. It pays to be the boss.
