By being like regular guys, doing regular things. Such as getting reported in national newspapers like the Times for student-style eating competitions. As you’d expect in the City this is done under a more sophisticated moniker “The Vending Machine Challenge.” They say gambling you say futures trading.

The rules: participants must eat one of everything in the office vending machine in an allotted time. The only exception is chewing gum, which must be chewed for two minutes but not swallowed. Someone has clearly thought long and hard about this.

At Citi, one intern attempted to eat 27 items — or 6,000 calories — in five-and-a-half hours. With eight minutes to go and just one Mars bar left, he vomited on his desk — an automatic fail.

Sadly, the young man was unavailable for interview. Another junior at a rival bank, though, was more successful, consuming 4,500 calories in three hours. Apparently he took the challenge to gain respect and when he was finished he sauntered to the pub with his adoring colleagues. Heartening to think that one day these guys could be running our banks.

Nice work; if only Dickie Fuld, Freddie G and co had concentrated on liquidating their vending machines instead of their banks.. you never know.
